Perseid Meteor Shower

The Perseid meteor showers occur between July 17 and August 24. The best viewing time is when the sky is darkest or just before dawn. We had a beautiful evening last night in KC. The weather was perfect to sit outside and watch the sky for possible shooting star sightings.  There were a multitude of stars shining but unfortunately I didn't see anything streak across the sky. I'm going to continue to watch at night and hopefully I will at some point catch a glimpse of the meteor showers taking place. If nothing else I will just enjoy one of the best views of the stars in the area from my deck.

Star Wars Day at the K

Today was Star Wars Day at Kauffman Stadium! The Royals played the Chicago White Sox and won! Afterward my children ran around the bases. It was a great finish to my summer vacation! I will be back to work in my office tomorrow.

Creating a Book Cover

I thought it would be interesting to share on my website the different stages in the process of creating a book cover. The entire process of creating the book cover for Bridgeiro took a little over a week.

In order to produce a book cover, the author and the artist often will have a lengthy meeting to collaborate on what the final cover should look like.

For Bridgeiro, I had specific images that I wanted the background to represent: the cover had to be about a specific chapter in the manuscript and also illustrate the natural planet of Bridgeiro.

Once we decided on the images for the cover, Tom asked me a lot of questions about the planet and the scene from the chapter that I chose for the cover. Since I wanted Charles to be coming out from a cave on Bridgeiro and since the landscape is different from Earth, we had to work together to get every detail perfect, from the moons that are in the sky to the rocks that created the cave.

This is the first picture for the cover that Tom sent to me. Our hard work paid off! The result was perfection.
