A Roller Coaster Of A Day

All day today was spent at Worlds of Fun riding roller coasters.  While we were there we went to a dinosaur exhibit.  I think dinosuars are fascinating.  The thought that paleontologists are still unearthing new ones all the time and learning more about them with each discovery is amazing!  In my stories when I create my other-worldly beasts I have them in mind.  They inspire me to find ways to be as creative and descriptive as I can when I am writing so that you can picture them in your mind while reading.  This is the summer for extreme sports for my children.  My son just recently got a trick bike that he's been wanting.  He's fascinated with the idea of doing jumps and tricks.  Since my daughter has had a lot of success in gymnastics she was also excited to see the All Wheel Sports show.  If you don't know who they are they were on America's Got Talent.  I took a few pictures to put on the websites so that you can see for yourself the amazing things we saw today.  I hope you enjoy them!  Tonight once we got home I enjoyed the display of stars in the night sky.  They were incredible!

Stargazing Tonight

Tonight was the perfect evening to spend family time outside stargazing.  This month is a particualrly a good month to be observing the night time sky.  My blog says it's already the 27th but it's actually the 26th where I am and tonight was the New Moon, tomorrow I'll be out looking for the Hercules Cluster.  If the sky is clear and you aren't around the city lights you too should be able to see a cluster of stars banded together.  I'll be out with my binoculars and our telescope looking for it.  We downloaded an app on my phone for the children and they are having a great time learning about the universe and its fun myths!  As we stood outside we spotted a shooting star cross the sky!  It was an amazing thing to see!

A New Twist To the Plot

I've been considering several options that I think are important to the story and have to do with the direction I want to go with the book.  This afternoon inspiration struck like lightning after I dragged myself away from playing Xbox with my children.  I sat down at my computer and outlined an exciting twist to the storyline that I'm almost positive no one will see coming.  While I was writing I introduced a new character that is going to do some interesting things in the series.  Everything I've been working so hard on in this story is beginning to come together to create something I think is truly unique.  I can't wait for you to be able to read it!

Playing Video Games

World building is proving itself to be highly addictive and more fun than laundry!

Out and About

The weather was hot today in KC so we decided to stay indoors.  We had an eventful day at Crown Center.  My children liked exploring the Super Kids Save the World exhibit.  Not only was it a lot of fun but a learning experience for them as well.  The exhibit showed children ways to recycle, reduce, reuse, repair and repurpose...  Great concepts.  Then we went to the Coterie Theatre to see the play Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.  I couldn't resist going to see it.  The movie was always one of my childhood favorites.  It brings back memories of when I visited my grandparent's house.  As a child I had a fascination with cars and car keys.  One of my grandparent's owned a car lot.  My mom's dad would spoil me and bring home sacks of old car keys just for me.  It was the best!  When I would vist my dad's parent's house I often played with my dad's toy cars that he collected as a child.  Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is about a car that can float and fly which is my kind of car!  Thinking back, for some strange reason I've always liked the character, Truly Scrumptious.  I guess as a child who wouldn't love for your father to own a candy store?  Wish I had thought of that one...  I believe in the book Caractacus was married, but not in the movie or play.  Anyway, the play was spectacular!  They had a great cast of talented performers.  As a matter of fact it was the best performance I have seen there.  We had a wonderful time!  Afterward we had time to explore several shops, and no, we did not go home empty handed!  What an enjoyable summer day!  It doesn't get better than that.

Cass County Fair

Every year we like to go to the local fairs in the area.  This weekend we went to the Cass County Fair in Pleasant Hill, Missouri.  Saturday we went to the rodeo, afterward we had fun riding the rides and watching the fireworks.  Then we went back Sunday to see the tractor pull contest.  My son gave it two thumbs up.  He's like his mama and loves cars and trucks!  There's nothing better than an engine that roars and is powerful enough to shake the ground!  It was exciting that they had a tie.  Unfortunately one of the tractors broke so they will have to have a tiebreaker at their next contest.  I have to admit that the one thing I always look forward to every year at the fair is sharing a funnel cake.  It didn't disappoint this year.  It was absolutely delicious!  I took a lot pictures of the events and we met a lot of nice people.  I've attached some of the pictures I took of the events below so that you can see them.  We are looking forward to the local fairs in 2015!  We'll be there!

Summer fun with family and friends!

This has been a very busy, eventful summer for our family.  We have spent our days at guitar and swim lessons for my children.  We've been to the KC Zoo with friends to see the new penguin exhibit.  It was well worth it!  We always enjoy seeing the animals.  The children had fun with their friends!  We went to Powell Garden to see Gardens Gone Wild.  It was a beautiful day and the children enjoyed riding the road trolley.  Several days were spent at Crown Center and local museums in the area. The children learned a lot of interesting facts.  Lee's Summit has several new outdoor parks that we explored and spent the day with friends.  Since I love history, we went to The Union Station to see the King Tut Exhibit.  It was fascinating.  I enjoyed it even though the exhibits are reproductions.  Recently we went to Worlds of Fun.  It is one of my favorite places to go in the summer.  I've heard that the amusement park is named after Jules Verne's novel, Around the World in Eighty Days and that it follows five of the adventures.

On the Fourth of July we spent the day with our neighbors.  Every year they have a barbecue and a spectacular firework display.  I'd like to thank them for inviting us.  It's always a lot of fun to get together!

I want to congratulate my childhood friend, Todd and his bride Elisabeth.  They got married recently.  I'd like to wish them many years of happiness and a lifetime filled with love and laughter!

The children have recently gone their seperate ways for two weeks.  One is in Colorado, one is at camp and the other two are in Nashville, Tennessee.  I miss them and can't wait for them to return.  The house is very quiet.  So far we have had the house painted, our deck sealed, the yard landscaped and we have completed our summer cleaning.  Thank you to my wonderful husband for finishing the checklist!

Now after all of that has been accomplished, I finally have time to concentrate on writing during the day, not just at night.  I can't wait for you to be able to read about the adventures in the third book!  It's action packed!

Best wishes!

A Night at the Movies

I like going to the theatre.  Tonight I went to see Edge of Tomorrow.  I really liked it!  I thought it was action packed.  It held my attention the entire time.  The plot was predictable, but that didn't bother me.  What bothered me was the very end, I didn't think it made sense with their own conclusion on time travel.  However, it was very entertaining!
